A little about “Have you seen”. This will be a weekly blog post of stuff I’ve found I think you guys will also love, posted on hump day Wednesday to help you get through that mid-week slump. Let me know in the comments about anything you’ve found that you’d like to share.
Weeks Ringle has written very eloquently about the changes in the quilting world, with publishers and quilt shops closing due to financial difficulty. She talks about supporting your local quilt stores and buying books directly from the designers and not big company’s like Amazon. Hand up here I do buy from Amazon, for various reasons. Whilst I don’t always buy local I try to buy from Australian sellers where possible. My favourite being Cotton Factory, also worth following on Instagram, Alison is super helpful and fast. I also love Amitie Textiles, Clairs Fabrics and locally here in Perth, Australia Materialise Your Life and Calico & Ivy.
I came across this challenge whilst scrolling through my Instagram feed and love the idea. This is a no pressure, 30 days (not consecutive, at your own pace) quilt design challenge created by Rachel at Stitched in Color. You play along by posting on Instagram, tagging your photos with #30daysofquiltdesign check it out LOTS of great ideas. It’s purely a design/idea challenge, so jump in and let your juices flow, there are also prizes available!
The powerhouse that is Angie from Gnomeangel has created 100 Days 100 Blocks using Tula Pink’s book “100 Modern Quilt Blocks”. I made a test block pictured below to see if I could successfully machine piece such small pieces. It worked OK, I’m still on the fence as to whether I have the stamina to keep up! Ideally I’d like to be a week ahead so I could so 7 blocks on the weekend prior to the week they’re due. It’s a ripper idea, and more prizes with this event as well. Link with all the details.
Last but not least I have recently discovered The Fitness Marshall, via my friend Justine. Do yourself favour and follow and subscribe to his YouTube channel. The best 3-4 minutes of your day for sure. One of my favourites is this Meghan Trainor song, his commentary alone is worth it.
