Rag rug along

The awesomeness that is Jodie is hosting a rag rug along. I saw the girls (Fi, Bianca, Jodie & Kate) talking about it on twitter and was tempted. Then thought nah. Don't have the time etc. Then Saturday night watching a movie I couldn't just sit there and so out came the scraps and I started ripping. I snipped and ripped 1.5ish inch strips. Measured the first strip and then got over that and guessed the rest.

I started with the plait method and used the technique Jodie was using for slipping the strip through the previous round. I couldnt get it to work, definitely an issue with me! So I decided I'd crochet it. Magic loop to start and then single crochet to get around and slip stitch to join in a circle. I single crochet around and then started adding a single crochet between each crochet into previous round. This is so I could crochet into the gap created by this single crochet. Easier on my hands. If I make a 2nd it will be using the plait, I've given myself a stiff arm/shoulder/hand crocheting it! Here's  my progress since Saturday, it's one hefty rug. Thanks ladies for the inspiration and excuse these terribly dark iphone pictures.

Craftapalooza is me, Nicole Vaughan. I started crafting and making “stuff” years ago as a way to deal with stress. Looking through earlier posts you can see I was into crafty “everything”. I’d try anything. These days I’m more of a sewer and quilter, that’s a loose term I’d apply to myself. I am hoarding a mountain of sock yarn as I just can’t quite give sock knitting up yet, or the idea of it!! I have more unfinished quilt tops than finished quilts that’s for sure. I’m hoping this dive back into blogging, after a 4 plus year break, will help motivate me to finish some quilts. A little more personally, I live in the most isolated city in the world with my Mrs, Sondra and our four fur kids, yep crazy lesbians with a bunch of animals.

  1. Your rug is looking great!!! I’m glad I didn’t look at any of the Flickr photos till after I had begun my rug, as this is all totally new to me. I know I’ll learn heaps and have fun on the way.

  2. Hi,
Great post! Very cool to see your progress with those pictures. How long has it taken you to create this? If it doesn’t take too much time, maybe you could consider starting to sell your rugs and make a business out of it. You could sell them online! Thanks, great post, will certainly +1 this!
