Tips for Success

  • Magnets: Be sure to mark the correct sides of the magnets with a permanent marker before attaching them to the fabric. This ensures they’ll align properly when in use. Read about magnet polarity below.
  • Fabric Selection: The Page Pal Bookmark looks fantastic in textured fabrics like Essex Linen or metallic linen, but solids and prints work beautifully as well.
  • Stitching: Use a backstitch for durability when hand sewing the front and backs together and a running stitch for adding the decorative elements.

Did you know this about magnets?

Magnets have two sides or poles: North (N) and South (S). These poles create the magnetic field and determine how magnets interact with each other. Here’s an easy way to explain it:

  • Opposites attract: The North pole of one magnet is attracted to the South pole of another magnet.
  • Like poles repel: Two North poles or two South poles will push away from each other.

When using magnets in a project like the Page Pal Magnetic Bookmark, it’s important to align the poles correctly so the bookmark works as intended.

How to Check and Mark Magnet Sides:

  1. Test the Attraction: Place the magnets together to see which sides naturally stick to each other. These are opposite poles.
  2. Mark the Poles: Use a permanent marker to label one side of each magnet (e.g., mark all the North poles). This ensures you’ll attach them to the fabric in the correct orientation.
  3. Assembly: Attach the marked sides according to the pattern instructions so the magnets will click together securely when the bookmark is folded over the page.

Taking the time to mark and align the magnets properly will make your project functional and frustration-free!
