Fabric & Design Inspiration

This quilt shines with a scrappy aesthetic, and I’ve used Heather Ross fabrics to bring my vision to life.

Dive into your fabric stash and unleash your creativity with Topsieturvy! Here's how to make the most of your fabric selection:
  • Choose a hero fabric: Select a standout fabric to serve as the focal point of your quilt. The centres of the block are a nice sized square, perfect for fussy cutting a treasured print.
  • Mix and match: Pair your hero fabric with a scrappy mix of complementary fabrics to create visual interest. Plaids, stripes and spots can add to the pattern magic.
  • Consider print and colour placement: Experiment with different arrangements to achieve the desired effect.
  • Balance bold prints with solids or lower value prints: mix vibrant prints with solid fabrics (I’m allergic to solid fabrics #kiddingnot kidding) or mix with lower volume to create contrast and balance. We want contrast between our patches.
  • Pay attention to scale: vary the scale of your prints for visual interest.
  • Experiment with colour gradients: create depth and movement by arranging fabrics in a gradient from light to dark or vice versa. Watch the video below to see the rainbow option.
