Materials, suggested tools + notions

Below is a summary of items needed, the pattern has the full details including what's required if you're including a lid on your Blossie Basket.

Fabric Requirements

  • Template A (Window Hexagons) x 7 - Fabric size per piece: 9 inch W x 8 inch H (23 cm x 20 cm)
  • Template B (Inner Hexagons) x 7 - Fabric size per piece: 7 inch W x 6 inch H (18 cm x 15 cm). Fits a charm square, but it does not allow extra fabric for fussy cutting.
  • Batting - low loft single-sided fusible batting: fat quarter
  • If making a Blossie with a lid, 8 of each of the above will be required.

Thread

  • 80 wt to 50 wt thread for sewing quilt-as-you-go hexagons
  • 8 wt or 12 wt thread for decorative/ quilting stitching around the hexagons and the inner hexagon border

Needles

  • Milliner needle, size 11, for hand sewing
  • Embroidery needle (Chenille 26 or similar) for decorative/quilting stitches

Templates

  • Printable template sheets included in PDF pattern
  • There is an acrylic template set, but it’s not a requirement; you can use the printable template in the pattern

General tools

  • Quilting pins (shorter pins are easier for this project)
  • Fabric scissors and paper scissors
  • Printer + cardstock for printing templates (template plastic can also be used
  • Fabric marker
  • Iron
  • Pins and quilt clips

If making a Blossie Basket with a lid, you will also need additional supplies, all outlined in the pattern.

Yes! Enter your details into the form, make sure you have the pattern and you'll receive the sew-along emails.

Do I need the acrylic templates or can I print templates from the PDF?

No! The pdf pattern includes printable templates. I recommend sewing your first Blossie from the pattern and then if you decide you're going to make more, then consider the template addition.

If you have purchased the pdf pattern from me previously and want to now get the acrylic template set, send me an email and I'll organise a listing for you.

Is it hand sewing only? Can I machine sew?

You can machine sew if that's your preference, the sew-along will focus on hand sewing.

Beginner friendly?

YES! It is a hand sewing project and it's the perfect intro to hand sewing.

Finished size

Approx 8" across

Can I sew a Blossie without a lid?

Yes! I sew lots without the lid. If you are usnig them to store threads then consider adding the lid to protect the thread from dust.

OR if you want to use Blossie as a little sewing box the lid is perfect for storing needles and threads.

Can I join if I already bought the pattern?

Yes! Of course. Just sign up for the Sew-along emails

How do I add my finished Blossie to the gallery?

Details on how to add a photo of your finished Blossie to the gallery will be in the email sent 5 February 2026.

Add your finished Blossie to the gallery, and get featured in future Blossie Basket Parades on instagram.
